1. What is an Outside Electric Lift?
Outside Electric Lifts mount into the vehicle’s trailer hitch receiver. They lift the mobility device up from the ground to a height suitable for travelling.
2. Will any hitch receiver work?
No. Each vehicle has a maximum weight capacity so some lifts are not capable of supporting the weight required. Contact a Scooter Direct representative to help with configuration or you can use the Lift Calculator yourself to determine which lifts your vehicle will support.
3. Can I install an outside electric scooter lift myself?
Yes. These lifts are easily installed by anyone who has and is able to work with simple tools like socket wrenches. Many customers are themselves, or have a family/friend that is more than capable of completing this task.
4. Do I need to get a motor vehicle license in order to attach a lift to my car?
No. The only restriction to using an electric lift in any state is that the license plate be clearly visible. Every lift has an option to relocate the license plate to meet this requirement.
5. How do you ship the wheel chair lifts?
Lifts are shipped directly to the address you request via a freight carrier with lift gate service. The freight carrier must be able to get the truck into/out of your street.
6. Do I need to cover the lift or is it weather proof?
The lift is made to be outside in the weather so it does not need a cover. However, you should always cover your mobility scooter or powerchair as they can be damaged in the rain, snow or sun.
7. Will my vehicle support a lift?
It depends on your vehicle and your mobility device. A Scooter Direct representative will assist you in determining if a vehicle lift will work. If it does not support a lift then you can always use a Scoota-Trailer which works on any vehicle
8. Can you drive at high speeds with a lift installed?
The lift is made to secure your mobility device to the lift and the lift is secured to the vehicle. You can drive your vehicle at highway speeds without any concerns.
9. Do you have any offerings that work with small cars?
Yes, Scooter Direct offers lifts that will work on very small cars with smaller scooters. If you have heavy mobility scooters then no lift will work but you can still use a mobility trailer to transport your mobility device.
10. Can I open the rear doors with the lift installed?
Yes, when you use the Swing Away Option, the lift can be moved to the side to allow entry into the rear door or open the tailgate of the truck.
