1. Can any vehicle use a manual carrier?
Not all vehicles can support the weight needed to carry a mobility device. The hitch receiver installed must be able to support the total weight of the carrier plus the mobility device.
2. How does the scooter get on the platform?
Manual Carriers have a ramp that is manually lowered to the ground. The mobility device is powered up the ramp, then the ramp is manually raised.
3. Do the tie-down straps come with the carriers?
They do not come with the lift. Ratchet straps are available at many stores and we recommend you choose straps that you like the best.
4. How do I get a hitch receiver installed on my vehicle?
A hitch receiver can be installed by the dealership or you can go to 3rd party locations like U-Haul.
5. Do the manual carriers fold up when the mobility device is not being carried?
Most carriers have the ability to be folded up but you should check the specifications of each product before choosing. You may also contact a Scooter Direct representative for help selecting the best model for you.
6. How much clearance from the ground to the bottom of ramp is required?
Depends on your driving condition but generally 12” or more is recommended. If you have steep driveways, rough roads or high speed bumps then you many need more clearance.
7. What is the maximum length of the ramp available at Scooter Direct?
The longest platform length we have is 58.75” but that can support a scooter that is even longer. The front wheel can hang over the front of the platform and will still be very secure.
8. Do these carriers come with an anti-wobble device?
Yes, there is a device that bolts onto the hitch adapter and tightens against the hitch receiver to keep it stable

9. Are the manual carriers steel or aluminum?
Most of our carriers are powder coated steel and painted black to keep them from rusting.
10. Can I use the manual carriers on long road trips?
Yes, these carriers can be used at highway speeds and can be used to carry your mobility device, luggage, coolers or anything you want.
