1. What kind of lifts does Scooter Direct offer?
Scooter Direct offers both the inside and outside lifts for manual and electric wheelchairs and scooters.
2. How do I choose a lift for my vehicle?
Our representatives can help you choose the best lift for you. You can also use the Lift Calculator to determine which lifts your vehicle will support.
3. How do I install a Wheelchair lift?
Most lifts are easily installed by any technician able to work with simple tools. Many customers have a family/friend that is more than capable. You can also have the lift shipped directly to the installer of your choice.
4. Are there any legal issues related to using a wheelchair lift on my vehicle?
The only legal restriction for a lift is some states require the license plate to be relocated a place which is visible when you carry your mobility device. The best option is to always do this to avoid ticketing.
5. Will my vehicle support a lift?
It depends on your vehicle and mobility device. A Scooter Direct representative will assist you in determining if a vehicle lift will work. If it does not support a lift then you can always use a Scoota-Trailer which works on any vehicle.
6. Do I need to modify my vehicle to use a scooter lift?
Outside vehicle lifts require the correctly sized hitch receiver for your lift. Hitch receivers can be installed by your dealer or other service centers. Inside lifts often connect directly to the seat mounts which does not require vehicle modification.
7. Is a scooter lift weather proof?
Yes, the lift itself is weather proof but remember that your scooter or electric wheelchair probably is not. That is why Scooter Direct includes a Free weather cover for most outside vehicle lifts.
8. Can I open the rear door of my SUV?
Outside vehicle lifts have an option for a Swing Away Joint that allows the lift to be moved to the side so you can open the rear door of an SUV or the tailgate of a truck.
9. Am I strong enough to use a scooter lift?
We offer scooter lifts with automatic hold down arms to secure the scooter or powerchair to the platform so the user requirement is to simply press the up/down button.
10. Can I carry a scooter and a power chair?
Fusion lifts are those designed to carry any type of mobility device so you could switch between carrying a scooter, electric powerchair or wheelchair.
